six letter words

six letter words killer muslim lover refrain accept syria refuge europe denial desert senate broken shooter vio-via derail

distance lends strange perspective

distance lends strange perspective

a plane fails to land
dubious claims are made
bombs go off
in mosques
in bazaars
families, children are inflamed
killing fields galore
in oil mid east

oh,  and maybe
a deranged (if white)
a terrorist (if black/brown)
kills a few
in school, theatre, mall

another bright morning
(here)
enjoying chai
i wonder
about a refill

distance lends
strange perspective

another temporal law

You know Godwin's Law

As a Usenet discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one.

my modification:

temporal's law

"In cyber fora, the high tide of reason is not stopped by invoking Heaven, Raw or West"

this land is mine: earthquake 2015

the moon aloof
wolves silent
birds seeking nests

the sun quivered

religion, ideology, politics
all reign supreme someplace
sometime
not this time when day's order
is digging, probing

the dazed straggler
tightly clasped his three year old
took a few steps
paused
unsure

the quivering sun
saw a re-arranged landscape

crocodile tears
on media

earnest efforts
on the ground

from the minarets
came the guilt-inducing wailing
pray
pray
bray
bray

the pye dogs love

shiva, sahitya, shiva

shiva*, sahitya**, shiva***

shiva's tears
for sati
in katas****
up in the salt range

the pond
unadorned
abandoned
by worshippers

disambiguating
third eye
its legendary clarity
opaqued globally
by cascading cataracts

one brick at a time

for centuries
we drank
from the same well
celebrated festivals
fought invaders
colonizers alike

since seven decades
we've been building
these walls
brick by atomic brick
to the glee
of the mullahs
and the pundits

come, let's dream
some day
we'll bring it down
brick by brick

barefoot

barefoot the yogi climbs the mountain
barefoot the blessed walk
bare-kneed the pilgrim trudge up the hill
barefoot he paints the world

much to the dismay
of the orthopaedist

flickering light

flickering light

woh noor hay
aur roshni
kahaaN nahiN hoti?

pulling, pushing, pulsating
dusty heart
of dormant mammal

engraved on floating fables
his image
with/out reflection, we mirror

you-me, dust-dream
...are light
...love lust, hunger angst

karbala, auschwitz, chechenya
khmer rouge,iraq, syria
4/7, 6/7, 9/11, 7/7,11/26...

godrahbad, jenin, ramallah
ram allah?
gremlins awakening

where there is light
there are goblins
hibernating within.

circle ii / daira ii

circle ii / daira ii

inaudible rosary
of sighs strung together
with garish piety
irreligious
in its un-dependence
on cosmic power

other rosaries
strung with
tattered innocence
scrubbed beauty
raw humility
unrequited love
display naught

and in the end
there is no end
a circle goes
round and round

daira ii

bay aawaz

blame game: it is not my fault

repeated the cab driver
as he swooshed and swirled
through the desi traffic
with cars and carts
and men and machines
in various states of decay
rushing, idling, squeezing
with a foot on the pedal
and a hand on the horn
'it is not my fault'

fault? blame? confession?
adam would have smiled

quakes, tsunamis,
holocausts, ethnic cleansing
(all holocausts, not just that one)
and greed that blinds
individuals and nations
precariously countered
by grit, will and concern
for adam's progeny
by eve's children
who descend to salvage
flustered dignity

conflicts borne of nature
fermented on earth
whirling between
the many dazed and
the unconfused few

hirsute adam
would have revealed
mona's first smile
(leonardo tells me)
a metonymy for
'not-my-fault'

in the solitude

in the solitude

in the solitude
of the cacophony
i dreamt
of the rolling meadows
where the rustling
whispers of the wind
play susurrant ragas
of your fragrance

no thanks, i'll let myself out

no thanks, i'll let myself out

will follow the stars
to find my way home

it was realistic
not bravado
but the laws
of unintended consequences
meant cloudy sky

the door behind was closed
and the lights turned off

to the shepherd
(who had deserted us
or so it seems)
i muttered
fine, thanks
another night
in the wilderness
will not kill me
