A failed civilian coup - Ikram Sehgal

Ikram Sehgal minces no words:

The first civilian coup was getting Benazir Bhutto's will accepted wherein Asif Zardari and his unelected associates took control over a great national political party and seemingly turned it into a private fiefdom. A hundred days later, the next civilian coup succeeded in duping Mian Nawaz Sharif in entering into an agreement that the government had no intention of honouring. The Grand Slam of civilian coups (coincidentally after another 100 days) was designed for total control.

And he offers this advise also...which is likely to fall on deaf ears:

Pervez Musharraf may be vilified for any number of reasons but no one can question his patriotism. For the sake of Pakistan one appeals to the president to correct two major blunders immediately. He should repeal the National Reconciliation Ordinance and withdraw the decision to impose a provisional constitution order on Nov 3, 2007. As for Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry, Senator Aitzaz Ahsan and the lawyers' community, for the sake of this country they must reciprocate by not going the route of vengeance and adjust to living with the president and those judges who took oath on the PCO. This holds true for the only nationally-electable leader left, Mian Nawaz Sharif. Whenever nations are in crisis, leaders are expected to rise above their individual agendas to secure the country's sovereignty and integrity.

A military man always thinks like a military man ....and Mr. Sehgal is no exception. He wants us to just wipe off everything wrong that Musharraf did like wiping off chalk from a black-board ! And only because he calls himself a patriot? The only way that can happen is if Musharraf not only withdraws what he did on November 3 but also apologizes to the nation as he made us all look like a bunch of tribals from the neolithic age. And then he must leave! What difference would the withdrawal of the NRO make? Mr. Sehgal's advice to Chief Justice Iftikhar not to take the route of vengeance is misplaced. The shoe (in this case the BOOT) is on the other foot. It was Musharraf and his imported prime minister who took this path just because the Chief Justice took independent decisions in the notorious Steel Mills and other land scam cases and wanted to give a semblance of justice to the hundreds -nay thousands- of our dis-appeared citizens. It is not only in times of crisis but at all times that true leaders must pursue the nations' and not their own interest. Nawaz Sharif being the only electable national leader? Mr. Sehgal you must be joking.. a leader who you accept was duped, as a 'national leader'? Think again.

Almighty God bless America,The USA. Most powerful man has gone and two richest persons/groups have come in power. The poor will become poorer and rich will be richer day by day because of the unique business of politics in Pakistan. President Musharraf handed over resignation to the chief of army staff in presence of other generals. Army act of Pakistan zindabad , Pakistan paindabad. For God sake, plan for creation of jobs and circulation of money to boost economy of the under developed country. And make sure the rule of law over rule the law of ruler. Hard working people of Pakistan can make this great country a wonderful place if justice is provided to the common man. All the best with lot of prayers to the Almighty GOD for the welfare of common people in Pakistan.KHWAJA AFTAB ALI,Orlando, Florida, USA.
