motu

from motu: 'tell me what you make of this...' attached were 709 words of soulful, measured deliberation written at 3:30am upon awakening from sleep...the subject was mothers...and how they evoke the deepest emotions from their siblings...this was by no means an 'I love mama' piece...it was raw, crude and rough in the edges and straight from the heart...(ok just a draft)...later came the query…asking for reaction...i was multitasking as usual...so i read and said that it was all skeletal and needed more muscles and meat to whip it into a 1500 word piece...normally i suggest they work the other way around...start with 4-5000 words and then pare it down...after spending quite some time intermittently the writer tells me that piece was only meant for her and her siblings…unfair.i cried...unfair because if she had indicated I wouldhave refrained from taking it apart and breaking it down as it it were a creative piece meant for some publication (hopefully chowk)...so...apologies motu...

digression: nothing gives me greater pleasure then an eager and questioning budding writer make discernible progress...the sigh of satisfaction released after umpteen revisions is one well worth cherishing...
