What Fell Apart, What Came Together

What Fell Apart, What Came Together -

Twenty years ago tomorrow, the Berlin Wall came down. The Op-Ed editors asked nine poets — Eastern European, American, Russian and German — to write new works inspired by that event.

walls
will be built
come down
will get resurrected
easier to see them physical edifices
crumble down
but the walls between people
built on inbuilt prejudices
those walls do not crumble easily
the gods
of muslims, christians, jew, hindus
and the non gods of atheists and animists
them gods see to it
as if...
that enmity and prejudice survive
and encourage animosity

this is the lasting legacy
of the 21st century

we live and die
we live and die
doing our mothers
shame
