Are ambassador Husain Haqqani's dinner parties jinxed? This is the second time in eight months that his soiree at a hotel in New York turned into a jamboree. The chief guest both the times was President Zardari. And both the times he had to be evacuated from the dinner-turned-tempest by American secret service men. Mr and Mrs Haqqani like gathering the jiyalas of the PPP in America. All praise be to them. Because diplomats abroad, especially the snotty Foreign Office types, ensure that their embassy compound is kept clear of 'riffraff' compatriots. They hold them in contempt.
