The $15 Global Warming Solution
Conservation International, which makes news regularly for leading expeditions that document new species (recently in Papua New Guinea, Columbia, Peru and Brazil) has been recognized for pioneering new ground in cyber space.
The group's Protect an Acre Web site, part of its "Lost There, Felt Here" campaign, won a Webby for activism.
The site, designed by BBDO Atmosphere and featuring CI board member Harrison Ford, invites people to protect an acre of tropical forest for $15, and understand the connections between the health of distant forests and the health of the world as a whole. The cool part of the site is a search function that allows you to zoom in on the acre you've protected.
What else can $15 buy you these days? A night out at the movies, with some popcorn - maybe.
