This is what I wrote nearly four years ago. Geography indeed works to Pakistan’s advantage. But normalisation is about everyone’s advantage. Most importantly it must benefit the Kashmiris whose recent uprising shows the degree of alienation they feel from India.

He does not touch upon an important fault line - normalisation is not in the interests of the major power brokers of India and Pakistan.

Well meaning scholars can pontificate all about normalisation but the stake holders have dug themselves deeper with each passing year. It will take a miracle of nuclear proportion to get them unstuck. LINK
