The News Editorial Spin

Look at the construct of this sentence:
There is also some truth in the allegation by the present government that the petrol and flour crises were deliberately engineered before the elections – or at the very least wilfully (sic) left unresolved – the idea being to weaken a fledgling government.
Mix facts with fantasy and throw in a dozen qualifiers and you have this beauty!

And there is more:
There is only one way out of this and that is for the president to resign without delay.

This is akin to being the judge, jury and executioner rolled into one. Why should the President be denied the option of fighting his case before the courts, assemblies and senate should he chose to?

If he chooses a path of confrontation and faces the charge-sheet, a situation may arise where demands are made for his punishment.

One would hazard a guess, if not an assumption that the President and his team of advisers and lawyers are aware of this. So why editorialize, and that too in an editorial?

And finally, this beauty:

It is also imperative that the military not intervene in any manner and allow the Constitution to run its course.

First, the editorial attempted to deny the President his options and now in a mix of fear mongering and a veiled threat it advises the military not to intervene in any manner.

The military is embattled and under tremendous pressure from the US, from the extremists and militants and is not used to the dithering civilians ordering it around. If forced to intervene, it is any body's guess whose side it would opt for.
