Let Them Face the Music: First Omar al-Bashir then George Bush

John Heilprin quoting unnamed U N officials said "the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court will seek an arrest warrant Monday charging Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir with crimes against humanity and genocide in Darfur." Link

Scarce natural resources, especially oil, are a cause of fighting among the people of the largely nomadic north of Darfur and the farmers who inhabit the shi. The president of the country, Omar al-Bashir, an Arabic speaking black African, with affiliation to the north, has backed an arab militia, the Janjaweed, to flush out, by many controversial means, the rebels who operate from the midst of southern farmers. link

I support this move by the ICC. Let the truth prevail. If this move succeeds, then we should collectively mobilise public opinion, and force the ICC prosecutors to indict George Bush, Dick Cheney, Daniel Pipes, Wolfowitz and the other neo-cons under the War Crimes Against Humanity for killing hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians.

Am aware that this is akin to opening the Pandora's box. If George Bush is indicted, then leaders from other countries involved in War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity as defined in the Hague Convention of 1907 can also be brought to trials. India in Kashmir, Pakistan in Bangladesh and Baluchistan, Israel in Occupied Territories, Germany for Gypsies... the list is long.

But first Omar and then George.
