Hiding Behind a Skirt: The End of the Amin Fahim Saga

Goldy is too bright by half. A man should be brave enough to own mistakes (if any.) A man should accept his words, explain and show remorse, and move on. A coward hides behind an skirt.

The Fahim Saga is about to end.

Having proclaimed him the leading candidate for the Prime Ministership publicly on more than one occasion he began to have second thoughts. Or did he want to bask in media attention? Or did he play into the hand of "agencies"? Or did he succumb to machinations within the party? Or did the lure of power did him in?

Time, nobody's friend, will ultimately reveal what went on.

But, it is clear that he wanted to backtrack and consider other options - which is his and the party loyalists right. It is the manner this is playing out that leaves doubts and bad taste.

That he should be man enough to face the media and announce his choice was an option available to him. That he chose to hide behind a teenager is becoming obvious too. Benzair must be turning in her grave.

In a surprise development, PPP chairman Bilawal Zardari Bhutto arrived in Pakistan on Wednesday from the U.K., where he is a student at Oxford.

Farzana Raja, a PPP spokeswoman, told journalists that he would announce the name of the party’s prime ministerial candidate on the day of the election.
