The Vanunu Saga: 2008

"If you shut up the truth and bury it under the ground, it will but grow, and gather to itself such explosive power that the day it bursts through it will blow up everything in its way."
- Emile Zola

The Ongoing Saga of Vanunu: the Whistleblower of Israel's WMD Program

[Jerusalem] On July 2, 2007, the whistle blower of Israel's WMD Program, Mordechai Vanunu was sentenced to six more months in jail for interviews he gave foreign media in 2004. On January 7, 2008, the day before his appeal was to begin; Israel re-sentenced him to six months of community service instead.

This member of the New Fourth Estate: a civilian journalist who doesn't take assignments from editors or paychecks from conglomerates has been freely streaming video interviews of Vanunu from 2005 and 2006 on her website in the spirit of Article 19 of the UN Universal Declaration of Human rights which Israel agreed to uphold in 1948 and in fact, was contingent upon their statehood:

"Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers." -Article 19, UN UDHR

During my five journeys to Israel Palestine since June 2005, Vanunu and I have crossed paths every time and in the spirit of Article 19 we have spoken and I have been freely streaming video of him sending a message to Bush, Hillary and USA Christians- access above under VANUNU ARCHIVES .

Hi,

You are sweet to X-Post my article.

I don't know anything about A. Ahsan, can you fill me in?

Here in USA everyone took the day off on Monday in honor of Martin Luther King,

MLK said a lot of great things among them was:

"I submit that an individual who breaks a law that conscience tells him is unjust, and who willingly accepts the penalty of imprisonment in order to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality expressing the highest respect for the law."-Martin Luther King Jr.

Only in Solidarity do "We have it in our power to begin the world again"-Tom Paine

you are welcome eileen...if you want to write at desicritcs.org about vannu and other issues please email me:)

Aitezaz Ahsan is many things --- writer, lawyer, activist, politician...and lately as a conscience for the movement to restore legitimacy in government (however flawed it may be)...

he has been incarcerated by the present administration...and ditched by his political party PPP...of which you must have heard in the news...PPP was treated as a family heirloom and its leadership was passed by assassinated benazir bhutto to her son according to a will not publicly released

such are the ways of politics in pakistan
