Mr. Hussain Haqqani

Corruption or incompetence of anyone in any sphere of life is no excuse for people to cross the line of their respective spheres. Just as the solution to having a bad surgeon is not to invite an engineer to perform surgery, a nation must replace bad politicians with good ones if and when they are available. Making politicians out of generals only breeds division within society and undermines the professionalism of the army while preventing the other institutions from becoming stronger through experience and overtime.

The words quoted above are by Hussain Haqqani, currently of the US, and a future FM if PeePeePee gains power. That is by no means a certainty, as the Chairperson for Life is fickle.

Let me translate in simple English his words:

Corruption or incompetence of anyone in any sphere of life is no excuse for people to cross the line of their respective spheres.

BB and and Brothers Sharipov deserve another chance.

Just as the solution to having a bad surgeon is not to invite an engineer to perform surgery, a nation must replace bad politicians with good ones if and when they are available.

The if and when available is a beauty. The principle is laudatory. Democracy needs to evolve in Pakistan, so the course should be elections at regular intervals - let the [people weed out corrupt and incompetent politicians. But Haqqani is talking about BB and Al Sharipovs. They are/were both incompetent and corrupt. They should be incarcerated if not retired.

Making politicians out of generals only breeds division within society and undermines the professionalism of the army while preventing the other institutions from becoming stronger through experience and overtime.

Wrong argument for separation of powers. Yes, institutions should be strengthened. And there should be a balance and check between powerful and independent trio of the Judiciary, the Executive and the Legislature observed and reported by the Fourth Estate.
