kiani is being billed as the front runner in some circles. he was pinky's military secretary earlier. and he was sent with the team that re-started the doomed deal in dubai a few days back. but if the past is any indication (ali quli khan and many others) then not necessarily the best or the most senior general gets an automatic shoo-in. mushy is in an interesting quandry. in the next few days he has to decide on a replacement for short-cut aziz and a replacement for his boots - who may replace him also if the checkered history is to be believed.
