eyes

those eyes
dull, diluted and drugged
flickered with cognition
breath a distant groaning truck
the air a tired tourist
in lung's unfamiliar passageways
fluids drip dripping

clarity-obscurity interval
....................stretching
time allotted
....................shrinking

keh rahee theeN woh aankhaiN
...................mujh say
kahaaan say aa rahay ho
khaaN jao gay?
...................dekh lo humaiN

i locked and averted my eyes
...................more than once

mental anamnesis of seasons past
places we visited, friends shared
words we dissected, ideas analyzed
those eyes were vital, vigorous
passion fueled, smile wrinkled

today the eyes are despairing
to prognosticate, augur ebb and flow

today i cannot dive into them
am unafraid of fate, death
today i want to read not
......................understand less
today
......................i cannot reconcile
