Mandatory pre-marital blood test, Tariq Butt,
This is the best news that has come out the doom and gloom scenario afflicting the country. I present this news with a degree of caution. The best of intentions and laws flounder at the wall of bigotism and intolerance...more so in a corrupt environment such as our. So while the law makers intentions are laudable, one can only wistfully hope that they come true ~~t

A resolution moved by Prisons Minister Muzaffar Shujra recommended that the Sindh government make blood tests for Thalassemia, HIV, Hepatitis and other diseases mandatory for couples before marriage. It also called for launching a comprehensive campaign to create awareness about genetically-transmitted diseases.Health Minister Dr Sagheer Ahmed said that there was a need to reserve funds for launching this campaign and to establish centres for such blood tests. Information Minister Shazia Marri said that several diseases could be prevented through blood tests.
Apart from the then desperate and cornered Musharraf, Lt-Gen (retd) Hamid Javed, Tariq Aziz, Farooq H Naek, Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Rehman Malik, Safdar Abbasi, the then Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lt-Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi played varying roles, an aide of the then president told The News on condition of anonymity. Former Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Amir Qazi Hussain Ahmad has offered his services for a political solution which, he is sure, can bring to an end the ongoing wave of terrorism in the country.Qazi Hussain Ahmad, however, made it clear this objective of bringing peace in the country could only be achieved if the government assures its support for a home-grown solution and would not accede to any external pressure.Talking to The News, he condemned the suicide attacks and terrorist incidents in the country and said those who attacked the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) and innocent girls were not human and this showed these people had nothing to do with Islam and had no ideology. Qazi Hussain Ahmad [Yes, we have heard this all before. One wonders why with innocent civilians dying, Qazi needs guarantees from the GoP to proceed with his peacemaking. ~~t]
