Glenn Becks Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) Accused of Promoting Israeli Propaganda, Demagoguery, Right Wing Extremism, And Racism
Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) Accused of Promoting Israeli Propaganda By The Huffington Post News Editors - TORONTO, Canada - A protest over a Toronto International Film Festival spotlight on Tel Aviv cinema has galvanized the globe's creative community.
From Cairo to Calgary, artists can often be divided on their Middle East views but most agree on the need to draw the line between cultural expression and political advocacy. As a glamorous parade of celebrities walk the red carpet here, increasing numbers of Hollywood stars are speaking out for or against the festival's critics, who say the Tel Aviv program boosts Israel's tarnished image eight months after its devastating bombing raids in the Gaza Strip.
"We protest that TIFF, whether intentionally or not, has become complicit in the Israeli propaganda machine," said the Toronto Declaration, signed earlier this month by 65 artists, including actresses Jane Fonda and Julie Christie, musicians David Byrne and Harry Belafonte and writers such as Alice Walker and Wallace Shawn. Since then, 1,500 have added their names to the document, including 60 Israelis. The letter denounces the TIFF focus on Tel Aviv as being subverted by "the Israeli propaganda machine."
Lebanon's Palestinians 27 Years after the Sabra Shatila Massacre By Franklin Lamb - Martyr’s Square, Shatila Camp - 'Our lives in Palestinian Refugee camps, now 27 years after the Massacre at Sabra-Shatila, sometimes becomes nearly impossible to endure. Circumstances may change for the worse, our livelihoods diminish, our Zionist occupiers become more cruel and violent, but the work and compassion for our Palestinian brothers and sisters continues. For all people of good will the struggle for justice and the work of Resistance goes on. The cause of Palestine endures, the Right of Return still lives and the dream shall never die.' - Hiba Hajj, student, Shatila Palestinian Refugee Camp, Beirut

The one thing worse than denying the Gaza report (Amira Hass, Haaretz ) - Israel struck a civilian population that remains under its control, it didn't fulfill its obligation to distinguish between civilians and militants and used military force disproportionate with the tangible threat to its own civilians. There is only thing worse than denial - the admission that the IDF indeed acted as has been described, but that these actions are both normal and appropriate.
