Let the dice fall: Enough of pussy-footing

Kamran Shafi writes: Enough of pussy-footing; try the man (and his collaborators) and let the dice fall where they may. This country must go to a better place.

His heart is in the right place.

If Pakistan is a broken car then it four wheels are the judiciary, the executive, the legislature and the fourth- estate. Only when the four wheels are properly inflated and are in balance will the car move to its destination. [will talk about engine and transmission another time.]

As it stands today only one wheel, to wit the judiciary is balanced and inflated properly.

Kamran talks of accountability for general Musharraf. I have no qualms about it.

My objection and ire is raised when he singles out the former commando. If Truth and Reconciliation is the aim, then it should be extended to everyone. If accountability is the goal then it should be held for every one, including the present Justices in the Supreme Court.

No body, repeat nobody should be above the law and accountability.

Ask the Sharif brothers, Asif Zardari, and every single senator and MNA to account for the source of their wealth.

Ask them and the army general and the bureaucrats for their role in the abuse of powers.

Selective accountability is hogwash. It is deflecting from the real issues facing the country - inflation, corruption, abuse of power, denial of basic human rights to every citizen of the country.

And next time Mr. Kamran Shafir you touch upon this subject, do mention why the Hamoodur Rehman Commission's recommendations have not been implemented. You may write to Iftikhar Chaudhry also. I have not received a reply to my letter. Wish you luck.
