Accidental Find: Old Karachi Documents

The City District Government Karachi (CDGK) has ‘un-sacked’ the documents that were dumped in the space leading to the KMC clock tower. These documents contain precious information about Karachi, which began its journey as Kolachi Jo Goth, and eventually turned into a metropolis of teeming millions. The documents were bundled in a sack and dumped in the tower, where dust and bird droppings covered them, showing that workers and staff do not bother going inside. The technicians who came for repair and maintenance work would trample them unknowingly to do their work. However, fortunately, some of the sacks were torn and when the documents were taken out, their importance was discovered. The City Naib Nazim Nasreen Jalil was informed about the discovery who, upon visiting, decided that they had stumbled upon the history of Karachi through documents that originated in the late 19th century. Nasreen Jalil was quite enthusiastic about the find. “I am glad that we have found these documents and hope to bring valuable information about Kurrachee”, she explained.
