Afiya Siddiqui: Comedy of Errors Enacted by Fat Boys Institute

Khalid Hasan writes about this woman who was kidnapped
from Karachi in 2003, along with her three children and has been not heard of since then until a few days back. [Moazzam Beg author of Enemy Combatant had written about Prisonser 650 at Bagram.]

According to a FBI announcement, officers of the Ghazni province Afghanistan National Police arrested Siddiqui when they searched her handbag and found numerous documents describing the creation of explosives, excerpts from the Anarchist’s Arsenal, and descriptions of various US landmarks. It says that on July 18, a party of US personnel, including two FBI special agents, a US Army warrant officer, a US Army captain, and US military interpreters, arrived
at the Afghan facility where Siddiqui was being held.

Public pressure: In a statement, the HRCP said: “With the US finally admitting custody of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, one of the most brutal cases of the suppression of individual freedom, has begun to unravel.” Public pressure has at last compelled the US to admit that Dr Aafia is in its custody, it added. “While the Pakistani government has belatedly begun to admit that it had some responsibility towards Dr Aafia, it has a lot of explaining to do as to who had been detaining her and where she has been since she was picked up from Karachi in 2003 along with her three children.” To say that she was taken into custody only on July 21, 2008 is a blatant lie, as transparently ugly as any falsehood can be, the HRCP maintained. “The insinuation, that she had been hiding herself since 2003, is a travesty of the truth, an affront to people’s common sense.
