Baithak Desi May 03: Zardari and Sharif - who checkmates whom?
An interesting perspective from the north is coming to the fore. The Frontier Post in an anonymous post is sending out perplexing signals mixing metaphors and tenses. It is suggesting Zardari's highhanded in making decisions - a trait shared by all party leaders in Pakistan - who unabashedly demand rule of democracy in the country without showing a propensity for it in their respective parties.
And compounding this common sin of political parties with Zardari's handling of the restoration of judiciary and (singling out) relations with MQM. FP also suggests Information Minister Sherry Rehman should resign. It says:
Co-Chairperson Pakistan Peoples Party Asif Ali Zardari after making some deft political moves seems to be drifting towards status quo and could soon pay a political price for failure to adhere to the settled norms of parliamentary democracy. Zardari was now facing a tough test for political acumen as he is confronted with the issues of restoration of the judges and the compromise he has struck with MQM. The leader of Peoples Party may be committing a cardinal sin in politics by imposing decisions from above. Zardari has failed to take his party into confidence while trying to resolve these two critical issues faced by the country
Who advises Zardari?
Restitution of judges: A case for constitutional survival Huzaima Bukhari and Dr Ikramul Haq
Too little, too late? Wind Turbine 500MW electricity output in three years
May day, May day! Asif casts doubts on new deadline
Ansar Abbassi speculates: Is PML-N heading for a fall?
And The News calls it: Breakthrough in Dubai
Three conflicting reports from Dawn:1: Nawaz agrees to retain PCO judges: May 12 new deadline for judiciary’s restoration
2: Zardari says legal team to decide judges’ fate
3:Musharraf ready to ‘live without 58(2)b’
KARACHI: Lawyers not happy with Asif-Nawaz deal on judges
In sequence from the Daily Times:
On checks and checkmates: Checks: a reality-check —Rafia Zakaria
