Breaking News

I have written to a friend who could perhaps do something about this.

Lately, the Breaking News interruptions have become a joke.

As an example today, a regularly scheduled programme was interrupted twice in the span of 9 minutes to show PM elect Rabbani arrive at his son's wedding.

Breaking News should be something that has importance and significance. For instance events in the world such as a world leader's death, or a catastrophe such as 9/11, or an event, such a Benazir's assassination qualify for an interruption in regular programming.

Breaking News should not be indulged in when a party leader arrives at the NA gate, or is passing through a city in procession, or when he arrives for a meeting or when he passes through a city in a procession or when he takes off his wig, or greets a friend.

If there is an urgent need to inform the public as quickly as something occurs, maybe they should convey that news through the regular 30 second news break every fifteen minutes.

Agreed. It is often done as a lame attempt to attract attention, not to mention get the latest scoop on the story.
