she was young
daghter and mother to be
desolation drove her
he was her age
with a suburban family and sweetheart
his was another commitment

at the check post she
waived him and others toward her
and then the explosion
sound, fire, smoke

minutes later some feet away
covered in the desert dust
two young hearts
full of napalm
